The Department of Defence engaged DLG SHAPE to deliver a new build Working Dogs facility at Robertson Barracks in Darwin. Developed within the Army’s largest base in the region, the project was designed to provide a purpose-built environment for military working dogs and their handlers, supporting daily operations, training and readiness.
DLG SHAPE constructed a new precinct including a 12-kennel main bank, a five-kennel isolation bank, a training yard and shed, and a headquarters and support facility. The build also included climate-controlled kennels with individual day runs, handler workspaces, operational support areas, fencing, security and information technology infrastructure, along with the civil works required to complete the facility.
Delivered under a lump sum model, the project involved demolition of an existing structure, clearing of the allotment and coordination of all associated site and building works. As delivery partner, SHAPE Australia supported delivery through project coordination and delivery expertise, working alongside DLG SHAPE within an active Defence environment where access, security and staged site planning were critical to maintaining progress and meeting the standards required for a specialised Defence asset.
