SHAPE was engaged to deliver the Common User Facility at the University of Tasmania’s Australian Maritime College in Launceston. Developed as part of a $30 million agreement between the Australian Maritime College and the Defence Science & Technology Group, the facility provides a dedicated and secure environment for Defence, industry and academic partners to collaborate on sensitive maritime research projects.
The project delivered a purpose-designed facility tailored to support classified engagement and research activity within a secure setting. Key elements included secure communications infrastructure, multiple meeting spaces accommodating up to 20 personnel, and collaboration and research spaces configured for Defence, industry and academic use. The works also included integration with the existing Australian Maritime College campus.
The complexities of a Defence compliant facility come with additional requirements, over and above a standard construction project, coupled with University sustainability requirements, SHAPE delivered the project to a high standard, allowing us to achieve our Physical Certification and Accreditation quickly.
SHAPE worked methodically and collegially to ensure that quality of build remained front of mind. I would wholeheartedly recommend SHAPE.Megan Stride - University of Tasmania
