Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku Aboriginal Corporation, better known as Purple House, is an Indigenous owned and run non-profit health service. Purple House provides essential health services to remote Indigenous-Australian communities predominantly across Central Australia.
SHAPE was engaged to provide a design and construction solution for the new dialysis clinic in Coober Pedy. The first renal dialysis clinic to be operated by Purple House in South Australia incorporates capacity for four treatment bays, nurses station, kitchenette, laundry amenities, multi-functional storage, and the most critical area of the entire building, a water treatment room to facilitate reverse osmosis treatment plant and equipment including storage tanks, brine pumps and chillers.
The clinic was initially proposed as a traditional build, however SHAPE, in partnership with local design firm Das Studio, proposed a modular build to overcome the resourcing and procurement challenges that come with building in remote locations.
The clinic comprises of 6 modules which were manufactured within our facility in Adelaide and transported to Coober Pedy. Prior to their delivery, SHAPE completed the site related works including civil works to prepare the site, footing construction, inground services installation and upgrades, carparking and pathways. Further landscaping works were completed following the installation and commissioning of modules.
