Brimbank’s first fully ESD-compliant modular building

Brimbank City Council engaged the SHAPE team for its modular services to complete the design and construction of a new sports pavilion at Lloyd Reserve in Sunshine North, Victoria to replace the existing changerooms that were no longer fit-for-purpose.

The new pavilion is a fantastic example of modular capabilities and is Brimbank’s first fully ESD-compliant modular building, powered by twenty-four solar panels located on the roof that supplies the 10.5kw system.

Working alongside Katz Architecture, our team were challenged by the roof design due to its complexity. The multi-faceted roof is a showcase architectural feature that delivers ample light into the pavilion’s 4.2m-high ceilings and open spaces.

Highlights of the spacious social room include attractive strip lighting and floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors for viewing across the external stadium seating and oval. Alongside the social room, the club kitchen is fitted with high-end appliances and full mechanical ventilation.

Separating the social room and the first of two changerooms is an operable wall that opens to create a larger space when required, and a roller door separates the two changerooms for the same function. Therefore, the three spaces can be completely extended.
The building also houses a first aid room, two umpires changerooms, and a generous storeroom, while an additional external storage shed was added as a variation for additional equipment storage.
Externally, the extensive standing/tiered seating area stretches the 36.4m length of the building. The DDA-compliant carpark features a stormwater retention system via two sustainable rain gardens.
