Delivering a modern pavilion for Brandon Park Reserve through modular innovation.

SHAPE partnered with Monash City Council to deliver a new modular sporting pavilion at Brandon Park Reserve, replacing the existing facility with a modern, inclusive space designed to support the growing needs of the local sporting community.
Working closely with Council and key user groups including Mazenod Football Club and Mulgrave Wheelers Hill Cricket Club, the new building supports multiple sports, increased participation and a wide range of community activities.
While on-site works commenced, the Modular by SHAPE team constructed 17-metre-long modules with an integrated deck off-site before carefully transporting and installing at the reserve. This approach minimised disruption to the active sporting precinct, allowing the clubs and community to continue using the reserve throughout the build.
The new facility includes four flexible change rooms that can be reconfigured into two larger spaces, supporting junior, senior, male and female teams across both cricket and football. A generous social space with an operable wall connects directly to the change rooms, enabling the clubs to expand the area for events and presentations. Skylights provide natural light throughout the pavilion, while a large semi‑commercial kitchen supports match day and community functions.
A standout feature is the extensive tiered seating overlooking the playing field. The largest delivered by the team to date, it creates a grandstand‑style viewing experience and strengthens the pavilion’s role as a central hub for players and spectators.
The sloping site and existing car park presented challenges around levels and access. By integrating the building into the terrain and constructing a retaining wall, the design provides accessible entry from both sides of the pavilion, ensuring full compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act and seamless connection to the surrounding grounds.
This project’s sustainability initiatives included reusing spoil from the site cut to reshape surrounding levels and reinstate landscaped areas.
Completed in December 2025, the Brandon Park Reserve Pavilion now provides a modern, welcoming facility that supports the continued growth of grassroots sport while demonstrating the speed, efficiency and reduced site impact that modular construction can achieve.
