Transforming a 1970s shell into a modern, high-end legal workspace on St Georges Terrace.

SHAPE was approached by a new law firm to complete the fitout of their newly acquired premises spanning over one and a half floors on St Georges Terrace.

The project transformed a warm shell into a premium, high-end workspace consisting of a reception area, 13 unique designed barristers’ offices – each featuring bespoke custom joinery, meeting rooms, a boardroom, a collaboration area, breakout spaces, tea prep area and kitchen. Additionally, services upgrades were carried out to accommodate the new floor layout.

Given the building’s 1970s origin, the early discovery of asbestos posed a challenge. SHAPE responded by re-sequencing the programme, allowing work to commence on one floor while hazardous materials were safely removed from the other.

As part of SHAPE’s environmental commitment, carpet tiles and other materials were diverted from landfill and donated for reuse.

To ensure the highest quality finishes, a dedicated sampling area was established in the site office, enabling the client to interact with materials and confirm alignment with the design intent. Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) checklists were implemented at key milestones to maintain rigorous quality control throughout the build.

The result was a meticulously crafted fitout that exceeded expectations, leaving the client highly satisfied.
