Sustainability was the driving force behind the recently completed SHAPE Perth office fitout, applying circular economy initiatives in line with the Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Star rating system.
SHAPE’s newly refurbished Perth office is located in the heart of the CBD at Level 6, 10 Telethon Avenue, Kings Square. As the team continued to grow with a strong pipeline of projects ahead, it became clear the existing fitout needed an upgrade to better accommodate our team and future operations. The redesigned space is targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating, certified by the Green Building Council of Australia, recognising excellence in sustainable design and construction.
The transformation created a 463 m² purpose‑built workspace that balances functionality, flexibility, and environmental responsibility. The design blends open collaboration zones with quiet focus rooms. Through the removal of the enclosed reception area, team members will be able to greet guests personally on arrival.
A major technical upgrade was the installation of a state-of-the-art audiovisual system, enabling seamless connection with team members, clients and subcontractors from any location. With intuitive touch-control technology, the system supports real-time meetings, project updates and collaboration, ensuring all personnel can engage seamlessly, whether working on site or remotely.
Sustainability was a driving force throughout the project, with a focus on circular economy initiatives to minimise waste and maximise resource reuse. More than 200 items of existing furniture and appliances were reused, while 213 m² of building products such as noggins and insulation were reclaimed and integrated into the fitout without compromising quality or aesthetics. Additionally, all new materials and finishes were selected to minimise environmental impact. Daylight harvesting, timed lighting and CO₂ sensors lower energy consumption, while 85 percent of construction waste by volume was diverted from landfill through tracking and recycling.
Flexible hot‑desking arrangements are balanced with quiet spaces for focused work, and the breakout area has been redesigned to encourage informal gatherings and foster collaboration. Cultural elements are embedded throughout the office, with meeting rooms named after iconic Western Australian locations and personal photographs taken by team members displayed proudly across the space.
“This project was about more than simply refurbishing the workplace. It was about making better use of the space already available to create an environment that reflects how SHAPE works and what is valued. As experts in office fitouts, it was important the space demonstrates the quality, functionality and design delivered for clients. By prioritising reuse through a circular economy approach, environmental impact has been reduced while creating a flexible, welcoming office for people and clients alike,” said Damian La Rosa, General Manager, SHAPE WA.
The Perth office adds to SHAPE’s expanding portfolio of collaborative, sustainably designed workplaces across Australia, including the Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney offices. As founding members of the GBCA, SHAPE is proud to have contributed to a record of more than 50 Green Star projects nationwide, targeting 5 or 6 Star Green Star ratings.
