Delivering a space where immersive technology and research innovation meet.

SHAPE was engaged to deliver a new AI and VR Hub for the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics (ABLE) within the University of Adelaide’s Nexus10 building. The project transformed an underutilised ground floor student area into a purpose-built hub to showcase the University’s AI and VR research capabilities and support engagement with industry.

Although the hub was located within a compact area, the fitout created several distinct zones, including a demonstration space, developer workspace, and a small meet-and-greet area. A standout feature is the large-scale custom LED screen wall, measuring 8.1 metres corner-to-corner. Comprising many individual panels, the uniquely shaped screen required careful planning to integrate with ceiling services, lighting, and surrounding architecture.

Despite being a lump sum delivery, SHAPE provided detailed design coordination and 3D modelling to resolve service clashes and confirm buildability prior to shop drawing signoff. This was particularly important due to the constrained footprint and the number of exposed or feature ceiling elements. The ceiling zone included significant services upgrades, new lighting infrastructure, and structural strengthening to support overhead trusses and harness points used for immersive VR demonstrations.
