SHAPE was chosen to complete the following projects for Sydney’s iconic casino and hotel, The Star, due to our reputation of being the leader in the hotel refurbishment industry.
The extensive refurbishment of the western precinct ran for 22 months and involved 19 stages.
This exciting project involved creating Australia’s first 8k 25-metre curved LED screen, a permanently installed water show, 4,800 gold rings spanning over three levels, custom-made revolving doors, 40,000+ individual pieces of stone and 2,000+ light fittings.
The captivating crescent-shaped screen, which shows off artists’ works, from university students to animators, is reactive to the real-world environment and human movement to immerse guests in the experience.
The refurbishment of levels 5 to 15 of the Astral Residences involved a refresh of all rooms, corridors, and lift lobbies.
As the refurbishment works were occurring within a fully operational hotel and casino, it was imperative that our team coordinated with all The Star’s personnel to ensure a smooth delivery. We provided weekly delivery and noisy works schedules and worked closely with the client to ensure minimal disruption to business operations.
SHAPE refurbished The Darling Porte Cochere to create a distinctive arrival experience appropriate for the 5-star hotel.
The works included the removal and replacement of Aluminium Composite Panels (ACP), design and development of a bespoke light feature integrated into the ceiling of the arrivals area, new wall & column finishes with LED Lighting as well as the installation of anti-terrorism security bollards in existing locations.
Quality Assurance was a top priority for the client to ensure the ACP remediation was in line with government compliance. This was managed by using a QR code system for each individual panel to track their replacement. Once replaced, the team arranged the recycling of the old ACP panels to minimise waste.
