Client: City of Mitcham
Designer: DesignInc
Delivery Model: Managing Contractor
Location: Hawthorn, SA
Duration: 49 weeks
Project Size: 1,500 m2

As SHAPE was engaged to undertake the works concurrently with the adjacent Brownhill Creek redevelopment, a detailed programme and methodology was created to coordinate and complement both projects.

The new sections of the library included meeting rooms, extended collections, gallery space, a dedicated youth space, public amenities and improved car parking facilities.

Our team worked closely with the City of Mitcham to develop a staging plan that would allow the library to maintain its services throughout construction. With the project split into five stages, we coordinated the library’s relocation of over 30,000 books three times across the duration of the project. The library was also able to remain operational for approximately 80 per cent of the construction period.

Partnering with the City of Mitcham, we also facilitated a number of community engagement opportunities including viewing panels in the hoarding and site tours for the staff and nearby kindergarten.
