A collaborative approach to achieve maximum efficiency for CSIRO

CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, engaged SHAPE to complete a refurbishment of the complex laboratory and office space within the existing facilities across their Waterford and Kensington sites. The aim was to provide employees with modern accommodation and laboratory spaces to support collaboration and improve efficiency.

Due to the size of the project and the works spread across multiple sites, the project was completed in five separable portions. The project team worked closely with subcontractors, the government agency and the wider project team to sequence the works in a manner that reduced the impact on Australia’s national science agency staff.

The scope of works broadly consisted of laboratories, storage areas, workstations, science process areas, shared meeting rooms, quiet rooms, standing work areas, communication and storerooms, and kitchen and tea point amenities. The team placed a strong focus on commissioning, with the high-quality laboratories constructed to PC2 requirements.

Scientists and people working in the laboratories were involved throughout various stages of the project. This collaborative approach meant that the spaces were constructed to achieve maximum efficiency for the organisation.
