SHAPE wins Smart Building Industry Award for Geelong Lutheran College project

SHAPE has won a Smart Building Industry Award for the Geelong Lutheran College project, which incorporated a new, bespoke modular facility into the school’s campus. While SHAPE received two project nominations, this is the first award won by the Modular by SHAPE VIC team, who competed in the most entered category of the esteemed competition.

The Smart Building Industry Awards recognise projects that promote excellence, innovation and sustainable practices. Hosted by prefabAUS, one of Australia’s leading industry organisations for prefabricated building, the event also celebrates builders who strive to deliver innovative and smart projects.

Held on Wednesday, 28 August at the Novotel, Sydney Olympic Park, the event featured the industry’s top players. SHAPE is proud to receive its first-time win at the inaugural awards, as it pays testament to a dedicated focus in producing high-quality modular projects.

The Geelong Lutheran College, Armstrong Creek – ‘Ngarrwa’ Two-Storey Year 11/12 Hub project won first prize in the Excellence in prefabricated building – Education category.

Ngarrwa’ — the Wadawurrung word for ‘knowledge,’ is the two-storey educational facility produced by the Modular by SHAPE team for Geelong Lutheran College. The building features classrooms, breakout zones, a Year 12 communal area with a Genius Bar and a tiered amphitheatre presentation space known as ‘The Cove’, and outdoor learning and recreational areas.

The building is situated near Victoria’s busy Surf Coast Highway, and in ensuring the comfort of the student body, the team selected a modular building framework to minimise offsite and onsite works. Showcasing the best of modular, the facility makes a statement on site, is complimentary to the built environments, and was constructed with a process that was unconstrained by traditional volumetric shapes. With the school’s Term 1 2024 commencement in mind, the building was produced ahead of time to accommodate the growing student body.
