The SHAPE QLD team was tasked to complete the refurbishment of all guestrooms and public spaces within a compressed programme in which all 16 floors were fitout concurrently. Works included refurbishment and refresh of all hotel public areas including the restaurant, pool grotto, lobbies and function rooms.
The new resort’s aesthetic is inspired by its natural surroundings, embodying the beauty and relaxed mood of coastal Queensland. The new lobby and public spaces reflect a design narrative inspired by the surrounding landscapes. The 223 guestrooms and suites draw inspiration from their urban beachside context and are designed to appeal to the most discerning traveler. Rooms are open and spacious, and feature thoughtful compositions of soft natural color palettes and materials.
Works to the 223 guestrooms consisted of ensuites, tiling, fixtures and fittings, overseas procured joinery and fabric panelling, new Room Automation systems controlling lighting and mechanical operation, new FFE including furniture, feature lighting, curtains and various OS&E items, floor and wall finishes including timber and tiled flooring, broadloom carpet and wallpaper, new ceilings and bulkheads and services alterations.
The team also completed a refurbishment of the Porte Cochere Arrival, Ground Floor Lobby & Reception Areas, including the grand staircase, upgrades to the hotel’s exclusive restaurants and venues such as the new Citrique restaurant, Chapter & Verse Bar, Level 2 Meeting Rooms, Blank Canvas, Ballroom, Level 3 Misono restaurant, as well as remediation of the Grotto, which utilised 3D scanning models to successfully remove and reinstate the existing Grotto waterfalls and to ensure remediation works were then completed to match/maintain the previous Grotto design like for like.
This project was the first JW Marriott to be re-branded in Australia. JW Marriott is a more high end and luxurious branch of Marriott Hotels, and the JW Marriott Surfers Paradise is the first of its kind in Australia, making SHAPE key to the brand’s repositioning process.
