Client:Â Port Phillip Ferries
Delivery Model:Â Design & Construct
Location:Â Docklands, VIC
Duration:Â 17 Weeks
Project Size:Â 228m2
Acting on community and stakeholder demand, Port Phillip Ferries contracted SHAPE (formerly KLMSA) to design and build a purpose-built ferry terminal and community hub, comprising a full-service cafe, accessible bathrooms, and office for ferry staff.
Considering the Docklands site location and its proximity to the ocean, the SHAPE team implemented a design that blended into the surrounding infrastructure and factored in marine-grade materials that would endure environmental elements such as saltwater and sea air. Large waterside windows were included to showcase spectacular views of Victoria Harbour, as well as a welcome foyer, reception area and visitor information services.
Challenged by building on a dock, the team installed a gantry to assist with the build. In addition, there were parameters set by the City of Melbourne, but with minimal disruption our team were able to project manage the successful completion of the project around the CBDs tram network, powerlines, and general works within the City of Melbourne.
