Innovation has always been part of SHAPE’s DNA. For more than 35 years, the company has challenged itself to find smarter, faster and more sustainable ways of working.
That spirit of creativity and problem-solving was on full display in FY25, with almost 200 ideas submitted by team members across the country as part of the SHAPE Innovation Challenge.
The initiative was designed to harness the insights and expertise of SHAPE’s people, uncovering practical ideas that create value for clients, communities and the business. Submissions this year ranged from new approaches to site safety, sustainability and efficiency, to initiatives enhancing customer and employee experience.
To ensure ideas were assessed consistently and fairly, SHAPE’s National Senior Leadership Team formed the Evaluation Panel. Using a framework based on impact, effort and return on investment, six finalists were selected to present at a showcase event in Sydney.
The winners, Jasmin Taylor, Environmental Sustainability Manager – Projects, NSW and Giuseppe Oliva, Project Coordinator, SA, put forward initiatives that will deliver tangible improvements for clients, employees and communities over the next two years. They will also be flown over to the UK next year to visit SHAPE’s alliance partner BW: Workplace Experts and discuss how their ideas may also benefit them.
Peter Marix-Evans, CEO at SHAPE, said the Innovation Challenge demonstrates the company’s culture of fresh thinking:
“SHAPE have been driving innovation for over 35 years and it's something we really pride ourselves on. In the past 12 to 18 months, we've had a significant amount of growth, and the business is expanding into different regions and sectors. It’s important that we take with us that same focus on innovation and look at what we do and how we can do it simpler, smarter, faster.”
“The Innovation Challenge is about uncovering practical, creative ideas that can make a meaningful difference to how we work and the value we create. It’s inspiring to see so many of our people leaning into this, and showing that innovation isn’t just about technology, it’s about fresh thinking, problem solving, and a drive to make things better.”
The program demonstrated that innovation at SHAPE is not confined to a role, region or department, it belongs to everyone. By creating a platform for fresh ideas and solutions from across the business, SHAPE continues to foster a culture of creativity, adaptability and collaboration, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of the industry.
