SHAPE raises more than $120k in 2022 NSW Annual Charity Soccer Day

The SHAPE Sydney team has celebrated its 2022 SHAPE Annual Charity Soccer Day, altogether raising more than $120k.

The SHAPE team took to the field with participating subcontractors for a friendly soccer tournament at Wentworth Park Sporting Complex on Friday, 13 May to raise money for two incredible organisations: SeeBeyondBorders and Mates in Construction.

SeeBeyondBorders focuses on improving access, attendance, and attention for school children in Cambodia. SHAPE have had a longstanding partnership with SeeBeyondBorders and have donated more than $450k to the organisation since 2013. Mates in Construction is a suicide prevention and early intervention organisation. With suicide being the single biggest killer in the construction industry, SHAPE has focused their efforts on Mates in Construction since 2016, donating more than $450k to the organisation.

This was the first year that SHAPE Sydney hosted a Soccer Day, previously known as Golf Day. The event was attended by more than 220 SHAPIANS, participating subcontractors, volunteers, and charity representatives. The event is part of SHAPE’s commitment to giving back and will contribute towards its target to raise $550k this financial year.

After three gruelling rounds of soccer between 23 subcontractor teams, not only battling each other but the unpredictable rain, two teams went head-to-head in a grand final round: Formcorp Interiors and Heyday Group. A huge congratulations to Heyday Group for taking out the championship win.

Following the soccer tournament, subcontractors took part in a raffle to win further prizes, hosted by comedian Rob Shehadie, star of Australian TV show Fat Pizza. This year, raffle prizes ranged from a Samsung 55inch TV and Sonos Bluetooth Speaker generously donated by Harvey Norman to two Sydney 4 Attraction Family Passes sponsored by Merlin Entertainments.

One of the most anticipated events of the day was the ‘Pie The Boss’ auction, with the highest bidder winning the chance to throw a pie at Phill Wicks, General Manager of NSW, David Reid, Operations Manager of NSW, and Steve Meehan, EHSQ Manager – Training, Risk & Industrial Relations. The day concluded with canapes and classic arcade games.

The event was attended by more than 220 SHAPE staff, participating subcontractors, volunteers, and charity representatives. The event is part of SHAPE’s commitment to giving back and will contribute towards its target to raise $550k this financial year.

The SHAPE team offer a special thanks to their partners who donated prizes Harvey Norman and Merlin Entertainments, and to Custom Gear for donating the soccer day volunteer uniforms.

And a huge thank you to all of the generous and hardworking subbies who took part and donated on the day, and to the SHAPE Soccer Day committee for organising the event.
