Three nominations became three wins for SHAPE Newcastle at the 2026 Master Builders NSW Newcastle Excellence in Building Awards on Friday, 4 September.
The Allianz Charlestown Office won Interior & Shop Fit-outs – Over $7 Million, the University of Newcastle Great Hall Commercial Kitchen won Commercial Projects – $4 Million to $5 Million, and the University of Newcastle Campus Heart won Extensions, Renovations & Refurbishments – $5 Million to $10 Million.
At Charlestown, SHAPE relocated Allianz Australia into a 3,200 sqm workplace spanning three interconnected floors. Designed for approximately 250 work points, the fitout brings together collaborative work areas, meeting and multifunction rooms, integrated technology, breakout spaces and dedicated wellbeing facilities.
The two University of Newcastle projects focused on strengthening the function and experience of key facilities at the Callaghan campus.
At the Great Hall, SHAPE delivered a new external commercial kitchen and entertaining area to expand the venue’s event capability. Construction took place beside one of the University’s most significant heritage assets and required close engagement with more than 50 University representatives to balance operational needs, heritage considerations and design intent.
The Campus Heart project transformed areas of the Shortland Union Building into a more connected student hub. Delivered across three packages, the works included new collaboration and teaching spaces, a major roof refurbishment, structural remediation, a commercial kitchen, catering facilities, a student café and breakout areas. Careful staging and stakeholder coordination helped minimise disruption beside one of the University’s busiest event venues.
Linden Denholm, Regional Manager – Newcastle at SHAPE, said, “These three awards recognise the breadth of capability within our Newcastle team. From a contemporary workplace fitout to new commercial facilities and a staged university refurbishment, each project required a different delivery approach.
“To see all three projects win is a credit to the expertise and adaptability of our people, as well as the strong relationships built with our clients and delivery partners. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this proud result for SHAPE Newcastle.”
