From heritage renewal to safety excellence: SHAPE Tasmania celebrates two Master Builders wins
SHAPE Tasmania has taken home two awards at the 2026 Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence, with the Albert Hall Launceston Renewal Project winning Entertainment and Recreation Facility and the Lumina Function Centre at The Tasman Hotel winning Work Health and Safety – Commercial.
The awards celebrate two distinct achievements by SHAPE’s local teams: the careful renewal of one of Launceston’s most significant heritage buildings and the safe delivery of a premium function centre within an operational Hobart hotel and active public precinct.
The Albert Hall Launceston Renewal Project revitalised the 130-year-old heritage-listed venue while preserving the features that have made it an important part of the city’s cultural life.
Delivered through an early engagement and construction delivery model, the project transformed the Eastern Wing with a new reception area, foyer, café, function kitchen, meeting spaces and upgraded amenities. Structural works and a contemporary perforated aluminium façade were carefully integrated with the original building and its existing 1980s extension.
Working within a constrained inner-city environment, the SHAPE team used physical protection systems, continuous vibration monitoring and carefully planned construction methods to safeguard the building’s heritage fabric and surrounding structures throughout the works.
At Hobart’s Parliament Square, the Lumina Function Centre delivered approximately 850 sqm of flexible event space that expands The Tasman Hotel’s hospitality offering.
Following an Early Contractor Involvement phase, SHAPE constructed and fitted out the premium function centre while coordinating structural timber, steel, façade, services and interior works alongside hotel operations and public events.
The site’s proximity to Treasury and Parliament House added another layer of operational sensitivity. Detailed staging and stakeholder coordination helped the team manage construction activity around hotel guests, public events and neighbouring government offices. The Work Health and Safety – Commercial award reflects the planning, coordination and commitment to safety maintained throughout delivery.

At Lumina, safety remained paramount throughout every stage of construction as our team worked within an operational hotel, and live public environment whilst also being in close proximity to some of Tasmania’s key government buildings. These two awards are a credit to our people and the clients, consultants and subcontractors who worked alongside us to deliver these outstanding outcomes.”
