SHAPE was appointed under a Design & Construct arrangement to deliver the Fish Lane Town Square Redevelopment by Aria Property Group.

Fish Lane is an inner-city laneway in South Brisbane that accommodates multiple restaurants, bars, and award-winning street art. As part of its ongoing development, SHAPE’s goal was to transform 2,500m2 of hardstand area, previously used for car parking, into a vibrant Town Square, complete with two new buildings and a new public laneway that now is home to Southside, Kiki Bar, Bar Brutus, and a Woolworths Metro.

The project site was located between Grey St and Hope St, directly below the South Brisbane railway line and adjacent to Heritage-listed buildings. This meant that the area experienced a heavy volume of public interface and foot traffic, as well as being highly sensitive due to the proximity of the railway. SHAPE appointed a dedicated Liaison Officer whose role was to handle ongoing communications and approval processes with both Brisbane City Council, Queensland Rail, and energy and utility service providers. Statused traffic management plans were also implemented throughout the life of the project to coordinate traffic and pedestrians as they travelled adjacent to the project site.

Safety was also paramount throughout the delivery of this project due to the combination of new build works, ongoing services coordination works and the volume of trades on-site each day. The project also involved the complete removal of the roof at Buildings 49 and 63, which was then rebuilt based on the existing structure.
