SHAPE recently completed the refurbishment of Sandringham Hospital’s Outpatient Services building in collaboration with Alfred Health. The works were carefully planned in two stages to ensure the outpatient clinic remains fully operational throughout the construction period.
The scope of work included, demolition of existing rooms and construction new and improved treatment bays, consulting rooms, nurse administration and manager offices, new staff facilities, clean and dirty utility rooms, and a large new reception area.
With the building originally constructed before 1950, we encountered challenges related to structural design and architectural finishes. This included removal of Hazardous material and a heavy duty upgrade to the existing structure including internal steel supports and a new compliant fire rating systems. The team worked in confined spaces to install the vast amount of services upgrade required.
To bring the facility up to Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliance, our team installed an external ramp for access to the reception area and cut and installed an internal ramp to provide seamless DDA access within the building.
We actively engaged with Alfred Health staff and all project stakeholders to minimise the impact on daily operations. Our team was committed to reducing construction noise and activity, maintaining essential services, and ensuring that staff, patients, and visitors to Sandringham Hospital remain safe and comfortable throughout the project.
