The RFDS William Creek Community Health Centre is a landmark project for both the RFDS and Australia, designed to house Australia’s first virtual emergency centre and 24/7 telehealth services for the remote town and community. Although the town has less than 20 permanent residents, the region receives over 20,000 tourists each year. Until now, there was no dedicated health facility established in the area, with limited support for medical emergencies.
The new clinic provides a fully equipped medical space, enabling RFDS to conduct regular fly-in health consultations whilst also providing a space for additional health services such as dental appointments, mental health care, and allied health services.
Due to the remote location of the centre, a modular build was ideal, with the clinic constructed in SHAPE’s manufacturing facility within Adelaide. This also allowed the RFDS team to progressively inspect the works prior to their transport to site, reducing the amount of time offsite.
SHAPE also undertook site works to prepare for the module installation, delivering earthworks, new footings and services upgrades including the installation of water treatment infrastructure. The modules were transported over 800km north of Adelaide, including over 200km of unsealed road, and were installed within eight hours of arriving to site.
