SHAPE were engaged to refurbish two existing laboratories into five lab spaces for the Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences at their Parkville Campus. Delivered over two stages within a live environment, the PC1 labs were upgraded to three lab spaces on Level 1 and two labs spaces on Level 4 of the Manning Building (B403).
The scope of works included demolition of existing lab spaces, make good of lab spaces prior to fitout works, removal of combustible framing material of the external exhaust risers, increase of the size of the risers to accommodate additional fume hood exhaust ducts from the two laboratories and provision of additional space capacity for futureproofing. Our team installed new walls, doors, floors and ceilings, and performed testing and commissioning of all new services and equipment to ensure they were up to the standards of a Physical Containment Level 1 (PC1) Facility.
Project highlights include the installation of new complex services and equipment within a confined ceiling space and installation of the bespoke, custom lab equipment which was manufactured overseas. Our team delivered multiple new fume cupboards across the fitout of five separate new lab spaces (with up to 11 new fume cupboards per lab space).
The project has facilitated faculty growth for Higher Degree Research and Honours programs and supported Monash University’s leading position in the field of Medicinal Chemistry Research.
