Fast-tracked modular build expands Good News Lutheran College in Melbourne’s West

Situated in the high-growth area of Melbourne’s west, Good News Lutheran College –one of 16 Lutheran schools in Victoria — required new school buildings at the greenfields Mambourin Estate site to sustain demand for places at all year levels of their 1600-plus student body across Prep to Year 12.

Due to time constraints and a non-negotiable Term 1 start date, Modular by SHAPE was selected under a modular design-and-construct contract to minimize on-site construction time and ensure delivery within the deadline. The plan for two modular buildings comprising classrooms and administration facilities to be delivered within nine months meant the SHAPE team commenced work immediately, collaborating closely with Good News Lutheran College and the project management team at Fontic to meet the school’s requirements.

The 1,500m² classroom building houses 12 general learning areas to cater to 350 students, a specialty Food Tech area, three meeting rooms, staff and student amenities, storeroom and communications room. The classrooms are divided down the middle – with six on each side – by an internal decked breezeway with handwashing facilities and lockers, and a roof that allows natural light via skylights.

The administration building includes five meeting rooms, including the principal’s office, reception area, sick bay, staff kitchenette, two accessible bathrooms and amenities, complemented by a covered deck at the front.
