National Capital Private Hospital Operating Theatres
Major upgrades to operating theatres 1 to 4 as part of a wider mechanical plant replacement project.

Client: Healthscope Operations
Designer: Christopher Lal Architect
Client Project Manager:
Delivery Model: ECI
Location: Garran, ACT
Duration:  4 weeks
Project Size: 550 m2

This project included the refurbishment of operating theatres and the complete upgrade of the associated plant room and equipment.

Demolition and construction had to be undertaken in a fully operational hospital with patients and staff circulating directly adjacent to the site. A highly compressed programme meant that the site was operating 24/7, requiring zero disruption to hospital activities across a dynamic range of settings.

NCPH operated with a very tight programme over the Christmas shutdown period. SHAPE triple shifted & operated 24/7 to ensure the many project demands were met daily. Meticulous planning & subcontractor engagement was essential to ensuring the daily milestones were met. Afternoon & night shifting enabled the various nuisance works to occur whilst the hospital remained operational. The whole project was fully programmed in a micro-programme template to ensure ease of programme tracking and to forecast upcoming works for our client well in advance.

This project is a finalist in The 2022 Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Award for Project Displaying Technical Difficulty or Innovation.

We are very happy that SHAPE performed as promised over the Christmas break to ensure that the theatres re-opened when our doctors expected. A very successful project all around. Well done SHAPE!
