SHAPE Tasmania is delivering Lumina, a purpose-built premium function centre that will expand The Tasman Hotel’s event capability and activate the eastern edge of the Parliament Square precinct. Delivering under a Construct Only contract following an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase, which has enabled the team to support final design development, plan complex staging within a fully operational hotel, and coordinate stakeholders including JGS Property, The Tasman and Marriott.
The project includes the construction and full interior fitout of approximately 850 square metres of flexible event space, designed to operate independently or in alignment with The Tasman’s signature restaurant Peppina and the Deco Lounge. On site, services installation is underway, façade and internal partitions are commencing, and roofing installation is progressing. Earlier works have been completed, including demolition, concrete works, MASSLAM structural timber installation and roof waterproofing.
The ECI phase began in November 2024 to allow detailed coordination and procurement ahead of site establishment in June 2025. Structural timber was installed in early September, followed by steel in early November, with façade works continuing through to early 2026 to align with public events and hotel operations. Fitout will commence in early 2026, with practical completion targeted for May 2026.
As a premium hospitality asset for Marriott’s Luxury Collection, Lumina is being delivered with a strong focus on quality, detail, and the celebration of Tasmanian materials and craftsmanship, supported by close collaboration across the client, architect and consultant teams. Lumina will set a new benchmark for high‑end hotel-based function and event space in Hobart while completing the final stage of Parliament Square.
