Engaged by AMC Architecture on behalf of KBR, SHAPE completed a major refurbishment of KBR’s Canberra office including an upgrade of their high-security specification. The works were undertaken in two stages over an 8 month period to ensure KBR could continue daily operations with minimal disruption.
The scope included the demolition of the existing fit-out to make way for the new activity-based open workspace with 140 workstations, 8 private offices, collaboration spaces, lobby, spacious modernised breakouts and a virtual reality room. The project also includes a number of high security areas, requiring many hours of coordination around existing base build services.
Working with a restricted budget the finished project is an example of careful craftsmanship and attention to detail being executed to ensure a premium outcome. Working with high security requirements is an example of the attention to detail in the full height walls that span to the soffit above, including the complete tamper-evident painting of the soffit.
Collaboration with the building owners (Canberra Airport Group) to meet project and fit-out guidelines ensured the project was a success.
SHAPE overcame challenges with COVID-19 through IT innovations in holding consultant defect walkthroughs via Microsoft Teams and weekly status reports that included a statused programme with weekly picture updates. Microsoft Teams meetings were also implemented for Subcontractor Meetings ensuring all stakeholders were highly engaged throughout the entire project.
