Following a new lease agreement, the client identified an opportunity to upgrade their head office to maintain a high-quality, contemporary environment.

The client currently occupies all 12 floors of the building and initially engaged SHAPE to refurbish 10 floors across 3 key stages. Following the successful delivery of the first stage, SHAPE was engaged to undertake further works, including increased security works on the ground floor.

As the building has an open atrium space spanning the floors, noise, dust, and smells were a key consideration for the project, particularly during stage 1, where significant works were occurring in close proximity to operational floors and executive spaces. SHAPE created bespoke acoustic hoardings with the client’s branding to be used around the stairwell to minimise any sounds, dust and smells permeating through to occupied spaces.

Our project team included a dedicated client coordinator that worked closely with the client to understand their timetables and ensure works were not impacting their daily operations. This also allowed for effective scheduling of works around any key activities the client was undertaking.

Site security was also a key concern for this project. Our project team opted to engage subcontractors we had utilised in previous secure space fitouts (including defence-sector clients) and liaised with the client’s security team to develop an access route that complied with their security requirements.

An important part of the project was achieving high-quality finishes and rectifying defects on time to eliminate the need for additional work following the completion of each stage. Materials were transported through the site on trolleys, and set-down areas were carefully positioned on-site to avoid any accidental defects from movement and storage. Due to the considerable amount of terrazzo used on the project, our teams completed numerous factory visits to confirm the quality prior to installation on site.
