Kicking goals for Djirra: SHAPE VIC’s 2024 Charity Soccer Day raised $90,000

SHAPE Melbourne hosted its second successful Annual Charity Soccer Day, raising $90,000 for Djirra, a vital Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation in Victoria.

Held at the Melbourne Sports Centres on Friday, 22 November 2024, the event united 200 (number of attendees) players from SHAPE, sponsoring subcontractors and suppliers in friendly competition. In support of global campaign 16 Days of Activism (25 November to 10 December) Against Gender-Based Violence, the funds raised will support Djirra’s critical work empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their children to live free from family violence.

As the games kicked off, teams competed in group stages before moving on to semi-finals and the thrilling championship match. Congratulations to Custom Clad on their back-to-back grand final victory!

Alongside the games, the subbie penalty shootout, raffle, and silent auction added extra excitement and were key fundraising activities for the day. Generous contributions from attendees and supporters helped raise much-needed funds for Djirra.

Lunch was followed by a speech from special guest Antoinette Braybrook AM, CEO of Djirra. Her inspiring words highlighted the strength and resilience of Aboriginal women and the importance of supporting initiatives that address family violence and systemic challenges.

Antoinette says “The kind donations received from SHAPE will support Djirra to achieve our key priorities in delivering our critical, specialist, frontline services and programs for Aboriginal women and their children across Victoria.”
