The Victoria Barracks G-Block Refurbishment required a very tight time frame. To achieve this, our SHAPE VIC team allocated additional resources as well as a six-day working programme to meet the required deadlines. Items that had specially long lead times were identified in the tender submission. This ensured all parties were aware of the implications, and mitigation strategies could be developed early.
A critical aspect of the project involved working with the Defence Environmental Representative to develop a detailed heritage management plan that maintained and protected the building’s historical elements throughout the project. The measures that we implemented included programming, hold points, mitigation strategies, selection of suitably skilled subcontractors and workshops with relevant representatives.
An understanding of the systems and procedures for the Defence Medium Works contract were imperative to ensure continuity of both Defence and Contractor activities. SHAPE worked collaboratively with the Contract Administrator and base command to ensure user group and stakeholder expectations were met.
