Duration:

Project Size:
1,000 m2

The heritage listed ballroom was previously used as a storeroom, cafe and office with numerous services running through the site. The refurbishment was carefully designed and scoped with the intention of bringing to life historical architectural features whilst introducing modern amenities for patrons to enjoy. The scope of works involved the creation of a new main bar, cafe, front bar, front and rear dining areas, gaming room, private wine tasting room, commercial kitchen, lift lobby upgrade, and a new comms room. The newly built bar now has capacity to service up to 550 patrons.

As the Guardsman Bar is located beneath the Adelaide Casino, a key consideration throughout the project was minimising disruption on the surrounds. With the Casino running 24/7, SHAPE adhered to strict security protocols and adopted a ‘ghost builder’ approach.

The project was undertaken alongside the new SKYCITY Adelaide Casino expansion which was being completed by Hansen Yuncken. SHAPE worked collaboratively with Hansen Yuncken to share access to the site – including delivery access, fire egress paths and utilising shared services. This relationship guaranteed no impact to the programme for either project.
