WeWork, 25 King Street

SHAPE was appointed to deliver the newest WeWork co-working space in Brisbane, a multi-level space located at Levels 5, 6 and 7 of the Australia’s tallest engineered timber office building on King Street in Bowen Hills.

As with previous WeWork projects, the scope of works included:

  • Private offices, meeting rooms, pantries and bathrooms
  • Open community areas, with up to 750 working desks and break out areas.

The location of the project was quite unique, as the new WeWork is located on Levels 5, 6 and 7 of the only all-timber building in Brisbane. This gave the project a great sustainability vibe.

The main challenges included the different considerations of working within a timber building, such as special fire prevention requirements, as well as extra care on all base building structural modifications.

Additional consideration was given to the Mechanical scope, as we installed over 50 new units with associated duct-work to allow for the additional population density, 250 working desks per floor.

This project delivery was highly paced, and the constant communication between our team, WeWork, the landlord and building management, along with all suppliers involved, was a key factor in delivering three floors over only 15 weeks.

The client has dubbed this project “the most successfully completed WeWork to date” – a testament to the tireless work of our team, in coordinating another top notch delivery.
