Modular by SHAPE expands into Western Australia with new Perth manufacturing facility

Modular by SHAPE is expanding into Western Australia (WA), with a 10,000 m2 manufacturing facility in Perth. This expansion follows investment in a dedicated local team and supports a successful contract win to manufacture 15 General Learning Area classrooms under the 2026 Mid-Year Modular Building Program.

The contract is SHAPE’s first award under the WA Government’s three-year Panel of Suppliers for the Construction, On-site Works and Transportation of Modular Buildings, which released its first packages in mid-2025. Construction of the classroom buildings is underway, with delivery scheduled for early 2027.

Modular by SHAPE has a strong track record of delivering high-quality modular education buildings across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The contract follows our recent delivery of health and defence modular projects in WA supported by interstate teams and operations.

Peter Marix-Evans, Chief Executive Officer at SHAPE, says, “Our clients and consultants have been asking us to bring our modular capability to Western Australia because they see the value in working with one trusted partner that is both a head contractor and a modular manufacturer.

“WA’s geographical scale makes it one of the most exciting markets in Australia for offsite construction. The Perth facility and locally-based team will extend our national modular network to the west coast, supporting clients across the state.”

Offsite construction delivers real benefits such as faster schedules, reduced site time and consistent quality. Decades of mining activity have also created a mature modular supply chain in the state, with local suppliers experienced in delivering mining camps and associated infrastructure.

Leading our WA operations is Dan Courtney, who was appointed General Manager – Modular WA in July 2026. He brings more than 25 years of experience across construction, engineering and industrial services, including modular construction experience in WA.

Dan Courtney, General Manager – Modular WA, says, “It’s a privilege to be leading Modular by SHAPE into Western Australia. In just a few months, we’ve built a strong local team and established our Perth facility, and we’re excited to start delivering classrooms for WA students. Education is where Modular by SHAPE has built its reputation, and it’s the right place for us to start. From here, we’re looking at opportunities across housing, mining, defence, commercial and industrial projects.”

SHAPE has been part of the WA construction industry since 1997. Following the integration of KL Modular Systems Australia into our business and the opening of a second manufacturing facility in Adelaide, Perth becomes the third manufacturing facility in our modular network. The facility, located in Hazelmere, is now operational.
