SHAPE Tasmania’s First Charity Golf Day Raises $17,000 for Matt’s Marathon Mission

SHAPE Tasmania hosted its inaugural Charity Golf Day at Huon Valley Golf Club on Friday 17th April, bringing together industry partners and raising more than $17,000 in support of Matt’s Marathon Mission for  bowel cancer awareness in Tasmania.

The event brought together over 70 players across 24 teams, including SHAPE members, subcontractors, volunteers and industry partners, for a great day on the course. Alongside some fun and healthy competition, the day provided an opportunity to spend time with project partners and continue strengthening the relationships built across the Tasmanian construction community.

The morning began with registration, coffee and light refreshments before players headed out for a 9:30am start. From the first tee‑off there was plenty of friendly rivalry and banter, with a few novelty holes adding an extra layer of fun along the way, with lunch served on course as teams passed the clubhouse during play.

After a great round and some close scoring, Will Austin and Co team took out the win, with ARC finishing as deserving runner‑up. Players then returned to the clubhouse and Matt Duggan spoke to attendees about his marathon mission and the importance of raising awareness for bowel cancer. The team then presented the winning team with their prizes, the raffle draw, the close of the silent auction and some well‑deserved drinks to end a great day.

SHAPE Tasmania is proud to support Matt’s Marathon, a Tasmanian fundraising campaign led by Matt Duggan. Matt ran more than 550 kilometres across Tasmania to raise funds and awareness for Bowel Cancer Australia, as it is the fourth most common type of newly diagnosed cancer and second deadliest in Australia. Bowel Cancer Australia’s essential support services are uniquely designed and aimed at reducing the impact of bowel cancer through prevention, early detection, research, and support.

Reflecting on the day, Tom Sparkes, General Manager at SHAPE Tasmania, said, “Days like this are a great reminder that the relationships built across projects extend well beyond the work done on site. We’re proud to come together with teams, subcontractors and our charity partner, Matt’s Marathon Mission, for a day of fun on the course while raising awareness of early‑onset bowel cancer and funds for Bowel Cancer Australia.”

SHAPE would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the generous subcontractors and suppliers who sponsored the event and donated prizes, helping make the day such a success on and off the course.
