SHAPE turns 30

Today is a special day for us here at SHAPE – it’s our 30th Birthday!

Thirty years ago, our founders, Gerard McMahon, Daryl Drayton, Steve McDonald, Mike Van Leeuwen, Steve Shone and Tim Campbell opened the doors for the first time in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

To mark this milestone, we are looking back on all our incredible achievements and celebrating the people that have helped shape our business.

Glen Thompson

Your position then & now?

Project Coordinator / GM Property.

What is your most memorable SHAPE experience?

One of my most memorable experiences was a staff conference to Uluru.

What is your career highlight?

A career highlight in the early days was being promoted to Project Manager and landing one of our larger projects that allowed me to bank our first $1m progress payment.

What has changed from then to now?

What has changed is the scale of the business from less than 30 to more than 400.  What hasn’t changed is the great spirit and camaraderie of our people.

Most memorable hairstyle over the years?

No hairstyle change – just a lot less hair now.

Jai Garland

Your position then/now?

Accountant / Finance Business Manager

What is your most memorable SHAPE experience?

Opening the very first bank account for SHAPE (ISIS).  I was 25 years old and went to speak to the ANZ Bank Manager at the local branch in Canberra.  You should have seen the look on his face when he asked me “How much do you want to open the account for?” and I said, “$1,000,000” – priceless!

What is your career highlight?

Working with a great team on the Muli to Jobpac Conversion & Implementation back in 2011.  The implementation & setup took approximately nine months, we converted 22 years of Muli data (a first for Jobpac) and rolled out training to over 250 staff.

Most memorable hairstyle over the years?

Big, permed hair in 1993.

Jennifer Seigel

Your position then/now

Accounts Payable, NSW / People and Culture Team Administrator, VIC

What is your most memorable SHAPE experience?

There are so many experiences, but the conferences were always a highlight.

What is your career highlight?

Keren Badger being my first female manager.  Thirty years and I’ve never had a female manager!

What has changed from then to now?

Personally, I am 30 years older and have a lot more wrinkles; professionally, I no longer have to climb under the desk to connect the computer to the internet and have three carbon copies for every single letter that was written.

Most memorable hairstyle over the years?

I was always very fashionable, NOT!
