UTS FEIT

SHAPE was appointed by UTS to deliver a world-class engineering facility that would connect students, staff, industry and the community. The aim was to create sustained opportunities for collaborative learning and innovative research.

Client:
UTS

Designer:
George Scoufis – Burtenshaw Scoufis Architecture and Interiors

Delivery Model:
Fixed Lump Sum

Location:
Sydney, NSW

Duration:
36 weeks

Project Size:
10,000 m2

UTS chose SHAPE for this project due to our strong working relationship developed through many successful collaborations in the past. The goal for this facility was to aid in the development and dissemination of technological knowledge and equip future graduates with the skills to contribute to a global environment.

The scope of works included:

  • Separate specialist facilities (mortar testing lab)
  • Workshops
  • Anechoic chambers
  • Photonics labs
  • Significant groundworks for the installation of the backbone services

A key challenge was achieving the required tolerances needed for the structures testing floor and walls. 40 tonnes of steel, 600 cubic meters of concrete and 469 structural anchors had to be delivered within millimetre precision to accomplish this. Our team strictly monitored this by using a purpose-built frame, manufactured using a steel CNC machine, which ensured each of the structure’s floor anchors could be held in their exact positions through each of the pours.

With the dedication of our team and design coordination with Burtenshaw Scoufis, we were able to achieve Perfect Delivery in this highly technical project. UTS FEIT will provide a competitive advantage and support diversity in all students and staff.

“The team have consistently demonstrated their knowledge and experience in the delivery of this project for UTS. Ever responsive to the demands of the clients and end-users, SHAPE has stepped up to new and changing challenges on what has been a highly technical project.”
